Metal Cutting Saw Blades Applications
ASKO saw blades are used in both hot and cold sawing of all ferrous shapes that are not conveniently sheared. Saw blades are used for cropping head and tail ends, for separating large pieces into smaller ones and for cutting-to-length finished products.
Metal Cutting Saw Blades Grades
ASKO saw blades are produced in through hardened alloy steel and surface hardened grades of carbon steel. Through consultation with each customer the appropriate grade is applied for each saw blade application.
Metal Cutting Saw Blades Designs
Through hardened alloy grades are generally preferred for their extraordinary toughness and resistance to cracking. Carbon steel saw blades with flame-hardened teeth are sometimes preferred for their higher hardness and longer life between reconditioning.
Reconditioning alloy steel saw blades, as the blade is already hardened to its core, merely requires sharpening the teeth.
Considerations for Saw Blade Materials

Consistency of Re-Sharpened Saw Blade |
High, permitting planned blade changes |
Low, with unscheduled changes causing mill delays |
Initial Saw Blade Cost |
Higher |
Lower |
Lifetime Saw Blade Cost |
Lower due to ease of reconditioning, less cracking, no surprises |
Higher due to cracking, costly reconditioning and mill down time |
ASKO offers tooth configurations and flat surface profiles to suit each saw blade application. Flat surfaces may be straight ground or hollow ground and consideration of profile is important for optimum saw blade performance. ASKO produces saw tooth and surface profiles to saw builder design, user modified design, and in many situations can offer design advice for improved saw blade performance.
