TUFCUT
|
There are three basic types of TUFCUT shear knives. All are made of the finest alloy tool steels. All are noted for their resistance to shock and their extreme toughness. They are recommended for production runs of cold materials having a tensile strength exceeding that of 1/4" mild steel.

TUFCUT is especially suited for squaring shears, billet shears and structural shears. One analysis is used for shearing 1/4" to 1/2 " thick mild steel or its equivalent. A different analysis is recommended where toughness is required for heavy duty shearing of material in excess of 1/2" thick. A third analysis is recommended for long wear in heavy duty shearing where very high impact strength is required, such as heavy bars and rails sheared on alligator type scrap shears.
MULTICUT
MULTICUT shear knives are made of special analysis of high carbon-high chrome tool steels...heat treated in the most modern type electrically controlled furnaces.
The analysis of steel is varied as required for the particular job. All are basically high in chromium. The high percentages of carbon and chromium result in the formation of many hard chromium carbides which make this steel extremely resistant to abrasion. Also, the high percentage of chromium gives the steel corrosion-resisting properties in the hardened condition. MULTICUT shear knives are normally used in squaring shears, scrap choppers, and other types of shears where a keen cutting edge and a high resistance to abrasion is required.
HOTCUT
The HOTCUT shear knife is furnished in special analysis only for use in strip mill crop shears. They are designed for use in shears where water is used to cool the knives.
